In our tests, this vacuum created an editable floor plan in big and small rooms, with excellent accuracy. It also cleaned up well and performed efficiently within the "No-Go Zones" we set.

1. Neato Botvac D4

If you're looking to enjoy the convenience of a lidar robot vacuum and mop vacuum, but without having to make numerous sacrifices in terms of performance, this Neato is a great choice. The D4 is a great choice for those looking for an automated vacuum that comes with a lot of features. It comes with handy navigation and mapping tools along with smart home integration, and an easy-to-use app.

To set up this bot, you'll need to plug it into its base and connect it to your Wi-Fi network at home. The Neato app will guide you through the initial configuration (linking the D4 to Wi-Fi, naming it and so on, etc.). Once the D4 has been fully charged it's possible to start cleaning.

Once the D4 is running, the app allows you to set up a schedule automatically or manually at any time. You can also control it using your voice using Google Home or Amazon Alexa. If you own an Apple Watch, you can start cleaning by simply pressing the wrist.

This model performed well in our tests on carpeted floors as well as hard flooring, accumulating 91.3 percent of the debris in serpentine paths. However it's not as effective at edge and corner cleaning as more expensive models--its side sensors keep the D4 approximately 1.5 inches from walls. It doesn't have the side-sweeping brush on all robotic cleaners. The turret's elevated design means that it can't be used under furniture with low clearance. It does support virtual No-Go Lines, so you can draw lines on your floor plan to inform the D4 not to go there. The battery life of 75 minutes is also fairly average. However, it's a small price to pay for the convenience this model provides.

2. Roomba 980 from iRobot

The Roomba 980 from iRobot is the top-of-the-line robot in the company's lineup, promising premium performance and features that are connected. The retail price of the 980 is PS899/$899 but you can usually find it cheaper online.

The 980 is the most advanced of our top choices. It comes with a HEPA filter which can trap micronized dust and allergens to improve the air quality inside your home. It also supports a wide range of flooring options such as tile and hardwood.

One of the most notable features of the 980 is its top-mounted camera and SLAM sensor which allow it to move more effectively than other Roombas even in tight spaces such as hallways and corners. iRobot refers to this technology as iAdapt 2.0 and it uses images taken by the camera to create an internal map. This helps the 980 keep its track of where it is to ensure that it doesn't spend cleaning time on areas it has already cleaned.

iRobot has also added some new features that are smart, such as the ability to mark a particular part of your home as off-limits for the 980. This feature wasn't the most advanced or largest we tested, but it's effective and is a great addition. The 980 can also be controlled with voice commands through Alexa or Google Assistant. The robot may take several minutes to complete a request.

The Roomba 980 also has the ability to automatically return to its base station when it's done with its cleaning job, ensuring that it's always ready for the next adventure. This feature is only available to the 980 and makes the robot more user-friendly.

3. iRobot Roomba 985

iRobot Roomba was designed by iRobot to make your floors cleaner, more beautiful and more powerful thanks to its powerful cleaning system, its smart navigation and a smart integration with other iRobot devices. Its exclusive dirt detection system warns you of areas that need extra attention, and it comes with smart sensors that keep it away from stairs and other dangerous obstacles. It will also recharge itself automatically and continues cleaning until the task is completed. Its intelligent mapping and vSLAM technology lets it explore the entire floor of your home, while keeping track of where it's been and what rooms it's yet to clean.

Its low profile allows it to get under carpets, furniture and other objects, where dust and pet hair are usually hidden. Unlike many robot vacuums, it also has the ability to sweep dirt from corners and along edges. You can schedule cleaning times through the iRobot App or with your voice, with Alexa and Google Assistant.

The iRobot Roomba 985 is powered by lithium-ion batteries of the best quality. They charge faster and last longer than other brands. The battery comes with a 12-month warranty and is guaranteed to function under normal operating conditions. The high-impact ABS and Polycarbonate plastic construction provides it with strength. Gold contacts, coupled with resistance welding and a durable circuitry ensure long-term reliability.

4. iRobot Roomba 990

The latest iRobot robot offers the highest level of obstacle-avoiding performance of any Roomba that we have tested due to its front camera and laser sensor. This allows it to avoid pet feces and wires much better than other robotic vacuums we've reviewed, such as the Roborock S6MaxV, EcovacsN8Pro, and others.

It's also iRobot's strongest vacuum, able of grabbing the dirtiest messes and hairy pet hair that is larger, unlike other mid-range models, such as the Roomba 960. This is due to the cleaner's larger counter-rotating brushes, as well as a stronger motor that can pull more suction power.

The Roomba 995 is iRobot’s least expensive vacuum, lidar robot Vacuum cleaner with recharge and resume. However, it does not have the auto-empty feature that the I6+ or I7 offer. It also lacks iAdapt 2.0 navigation and the camera that the I7 uses to identify objects and avoid obstacles. This means it can't save maps or access features in-app that contain information, such as no-go zones.

Another issue is that the iRobot 995 doesn't include mopping capabilities. While this isn't an issue if you only require a top vacuum, it's an enormous disadvantage for anyone looking to purchase the hybrid robot.

The Combo J7+ is another iRobot that has automatic-empty. It can mop and vacuum. It has the same navigation system as the I6+ or I7, but it lacks iAdapt 2.0. This means it can't save maps, and it does not have the features in-app for containment that the I7 and S9 provide. The Combo J7+ has improved automation via iRobot Genius, and can learn your cleaning patterns to automate cleaning schedules. It also has a bigger dust bin than I6+ or I7. It can hold 2.5 liters, which is enough for 60 days.

Roomba 960 by iRobot

The 960 is a more costly alternative to the 980. It has the same performance, but in a smaller package. It works well on floors that are carpeted or bare and is able to pick up dirt and food crumbs. It's great at navigating around obstacles and avoiding them. It's capable of removing dirt embedded in the soil.

This robot utilizes iAdapt navigation 2.0 to track its location. This lets it navigate the space efficiently and avoid becoming trapped. It can see the floor as well as its obstacles and objects with the help of SLAM and a top-mounted camera. It can even fit under couches and tables due to its low profile.
